Start with the word inside its verse
Open Al-Baqarah 3 in the Reader and select «ينفقون» in the Arabic text. The word panel shows its root, form and available grammatical details. You can move to the previous or next word in the same panel while keeping the verse in view.
Read the whole sentence before following the word elsewhere. A word has a grammatical role and a context in its verse; a brief dictionary meaning may not explain how it functions here.
Distinguish a word from its root
In this example, «ينفقون» is the form used in the verse, and «ن ف ق» is its root. A root brings together several forms. Sharing a root does not mean that two words have identical meanings or grammatical roles.
| What do you want to examine? | Where to start |
|---|---|
| The selected word in other passages | Open Explore contexts from the word panel. |
| Different forms belonging to one root | Open the root from Word details. |
| The difference between two occurrences | Open the verses beside each other. |
The contexts list can show the same written word, while the root page includes different forms. The results and counts can therefore differ between these views.
Read the occurrences in context
Compare Al-Baqarah 3 with Ibrahim 31. The first uses «ينفقون» and the second «ينفقوا»: two forms from the same root. Examine the verb and the words around it, then read the surrounding verses when you need a wider context.
Ask: who is being addressed? Is the sentence describing or instructing? What helps explain the spending in each passage? These are reading questions. Highlighting helps you locate the comparison; it cannot answer them on its own.
Save a finding you can revisit
Collect the two verses or add a note to your research. Record the reference, what you noticed in the text, and the question still open. You can return to the passage and reconsider your conclusion later.
If you consult a QI explanation, read the verse alongside it and distinguish the Qur’anic text from the proposed explanation. Use Report a problem in the verse actions if you find an issue in the text, explanation or word information.
